This page is all about the Justice for Spiritualism Campaign instigated by John Tunbridge, to bring about equal rights for Spiritualism and its portrayal in the media particulalrly television in the U.K. The campaign now has a wider remit, in seeking for Spiritualism to be treated equally alongside other religions. What we plan to bring to this page shortly, is all the correspondence sent out and received as part of this on-going campaign. We plan to introduce a database for you to register your support of our campaign in the not too distant future.. Please bear with us, whilst we are working on creating this page. Thanks too, to all who have given their support for this very important campaign.
Derren Browns "Seance" on Channel 4
Following the transmission of the above programme, College President, John Tunbridge, made an official complaint to OFCOM, the regulatory body responsible for television and radio transmission. Within the complaint, it was pointed out that no disclaimer had appeared either before or after the transmission of the programme, whilst programmes such as 6ixth sense, Crossing Over etc are all still forced to have a disclaimer put up before and after each programme. We await an explanation from OFCOM as to why no such disclaimer was broadcast.
It was also pointed out that Derren had encouraged viewers to set up their own Ouija board, and no mention, or opportunity was given for anyone to comment on the possible dangers of complete novices using a Ouija board. Derren called Spiritualism "ugly", at present there is no law that stops him making such comments. Had there been an Act of Parliament in place preventing religious persecution and discrimination, as exists in other countries, such comments would never have been allowed to be aired.
It transpires that OFCOM have received somewhere in the region of 700 complaints about this programme, when we are advised of their findings we will publish a summarised version for you here on this page.
